POEMS IN HONOR OF ANIMALS

American Pit Bull Terriers

You made me what I am today, courage at its best.

You wanted me to know no fear, a cut above the rest.  Not only did I master that, I've thrown in loyalty, too.  Look past my eyes into my soul, you know I'd die for you.

I'll watch your kids, I'll watch your house.

Your praise will be my crown,

ask what you will-I'll do my best.

I'll even be your clown.

But some of you don't like me, I'm sure I don't know why.  The only thing I'm guilty of is courage, love, and try.  But still they want to see me go, they want my breed to end.

Will I see you sitting idly by? You, whom I call a friend?  You made me what I am today, you never saw me waiver.  I've done my best to keep you safe. Won't you please return the favor.

We Have Come to Rescue You"

We know you can't believe it's true, but we have truly come to rescue you.

We have come to start your life anew.

You are one of the lucky, one of the few.

We have come to take away your pain; to end life as you know it -- at the end of your chain.

There will be no more treadmills, no breaksticks, no keeps.

You can now eat freely; and dream happy dreams while you sleep.

There will be no more waiting for Saturday night, no being thrown in a pit, no being forced to fight.

There will be no more suffering the atrocious abuse, with "they choose to fight" as their standard excuse.

There will be no more bets while you suffer great pain, no more criminals with only profits to gain.

There will be no more breedings; you are so worn.

There will be no more lost puppies for you to mourn.

They've cut off your ears; your appearance is marred.

Yet you give sloppy kisses, and you wag your tail hard.

When they say you're all vicious, we know they are wrong.

For there is no other dog, with a love so strong.

You hold no grudges. You only forgive.

They are wrong -- You deserve to live.

There are so many more we wish we could spare, but there are so few loving homes and so few people who care.

So come now, let's hurry, there is no time to waste.

There is imminent danger, which for you we will face.

We know you can't believe it's true, but we have truly come to rescue you.

Written for the most abused breed of dog in existence,

The American Pit Bull Terrier.

" Baggage"

Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed,

All nicely tucked into my warm new bed.

I would like to open my baggage

   Lest I forget,

There is so much to carry -

   So much to regret.

Hmm.. Yes there it is, right on the top-

Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss,

And there by my leash hides Fear and Shame.

As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave-

I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.

I loved them, the others, the ones who left me,

But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me.

Will you add to my baggage?

   Will you help me unpack?

Or will you just look at my things

   And take me right back?

Do you have the time to help me unpack?

   To put away my baggage,

   To never re-pack?

I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see,

But I do come with baggage -

   Will you still want me?
